FRENCH CLUB OFFICERS President. ...Beulah Greengo Vice-President ....Bronwen Hammond Secretary ....Byrnice Latimer Treasurer .... Helmer Edstrom The French Club is a new organization in Carroll, having started last fall, under the direction of Professor Rockwood, head of the Department of Romance Languages. The purpose of the organization is to give the members a more thorough knowledge of the French people, French literature, and also of France in general—France as a nation. Regular meetings are held every two weeks, at which time an interesting program is put on. At these meetings the life and works of a particular French author are discussed. French painters and musicians of note are also studied. At some of the meetings stories are read in French. It is hoped that later French plays may not only be read but dramatized, in parts, at these regular meetings. The club is also of a social nature, a social time usually being enjoyed after each meeting. An excellent spirit has been shown in the new French Club this year, and big things are looked forward to for another year. Professor Rockwood has done much to stimulate a greater interest, not only in French but also in Spanish. Page Sixty
