Sisma Tau Delta Nineteen thirty marked the installation of a new fraternity upon Carroll's campus, the Lambda Gamma chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, national honorary Enghsh fraternity. Sigma Tau Delta was organized on the campus for the purpose of promoting the mastery of written expression, encouraging worth¬ while reading, and fostering a spirit of fellowship among the men and women specializing in English. Membership is by invitation of the active members of the chapter to students in the Enghsh department who show eUgibiUty because of scholarship and the amount of material published in the school publications. The chapter meets monthly and works upon plans for their contributions to "The Rectangle," the national magazine. There are six active members: Helen Smith. Miriam Stoecker, AUce Pearson, Thelma Worthington, John Agathen, Eugene Herman, and three asso¬ ciate members who have not yet fulfiUed ah the requirements : Mary Smalley, Donald Heide, and Thomas Evert. Members in faculty are Miss LilUan Steckman, Miss Annabelle Hutton, Dr. J. E. Flitcroft, and Dr. W. A. Ganfield. [118]
