r Season's Record HANK OTTERY i^uarterbac\ BOOB THIEL Captain-elect—HaIfbacJ<^ A more spirited than successful football team wore Carroll's colors through the fall of 1931. Last season, for the first time in years, Carroll was the under dog. This is a hard thing to realize, but since Carroll had been on top of the football ladder for eight years, it was inevitable that she give way to others for one year. There were stars, however, who pierced through the gloom of defeat to lighten up Carroll's horizon. Wilbert Thiel well earned the laurels of captain-elect by his consistent ground- gaining performances and his ability to pass. Jordan stood out as the best punter in the conference. Gallup was the outstanding lineman, and he made opposing backs think twice before attempting to come over his tackle. Aker, the best blocker on the squad, and Rothman, the best line plunger for Carroll, gave a . , creditable account of themselves every minute they were in the game. The Pioneers placed Cal¬ vert, Ottery, and Gallup on the all conference team. Jordan was given mention on the second team. Les Smith, star end of last year, was voted captain, but he was not eligible, and no one else was elected. SWEDE GALLUP Tac\le WALLY HEMP Fullback [126]
