HINAKAGA Beta Chi Theta through the Year- The Greeks had a word for it, and so have the Betas— Beta Chi Theta can claim many fine ac¬ complishments this year under the charming and able Presidents Peg Norris and Laura Jane Birch. First of all. pledging turned out to be an overwhelming success. Beta Chi pledged twenty-eight—the largest number of girls to be pledged on the campus. And then, the fall play cast Avis Rey¬ nolds and Marion Williams in important roles, while this spring Louise Schaubel, Helen Vohs, and Mary Esther Wiley all won parts in A School for Scandal. In music the Betas show¬ ed great talent. Avis Reynolds was soloist in The Messiah and also gained a lead in the operetta. Pirates of Penzance. Many Beta activ¬ es and pledges were members of the glee club. The pens of Louise Schaubel, Mary Wiley, and Avis Reynolds were constantly in use writing for the Echo. Avis' renowned Bad Echoes formed the basis of campus discussion for many a week. Jessie Ann Baird and Mary Wiley are to be congratulated for their "300" honor quo¬ tients. Athletics had its share of devotees from Beta Chi Theta. "Liz" Ward, the Vice-President of W. A. A., Mary Wiley, Laura Jane Birch, Verna Higgs. and Mary Oakland were all ac¬ tive in sports. In inter-sorority tournaments, the Betas took second place in both the vol¬ leyball and basketball tournaments, Suah nuf. Beta Chi is proud of her vivacious cheah-leadah, Grace Venable, whose pep invigorates a whole audience at school games. Louise Schaubel, one of the Beta beauties, was a member of the Demerit Dishers, or the House Council. She is prominent in many campus activities. . . . On the campus couples listed are: Marion Williams and the Bird, Laura Jane and Harley, Steenie and Dickie, Evie and Johnnie, Peg and Phil, and Eleanor Burtch and "Spud," . . . The year has been happy and successful for Beta Chi Theta both in gay parties and in school activities. Page One Hundred Thirty-eight
