Student Senate Student government comprises only a part of the Senate's duties, however, since this group is also responsible for many of the traditional social functions which brighten up the college year. The Senate guards the student's happiness from the time he gets acquainted at the Freshman Mixer to the day he returns to his alma mater to join in the homecoming activities. This year, according to annual custom, the Student Senate started out it's promotion of good-fellowship by sponsoring the Mixer at which old friendships were renewed and new acquaintances begun. In honor of the parents. Mother's and Dad's Day, featuring a football game, a series of teas and smokers, and finally on all-school dance, was planned by this organization. Other activities placed in the hands of the Senate this year were Homecoming, the traditional Washington's Banquet, and the sponsoring of all-school dances. High scholastic attainment, college loyalty, and achievements are also en¬ couraged by the Senate in the awarding each year of traveling cups to the fraternity and sorority that has reached the highest scholastic average and in the presentation of the Junior Award to the most outstanding man and woman in the Junior Class.
