W. A. A. Laurene Atkinson Carol Basche J. Bcekman, A. Muller, E. Kraft, H. Eisner OFFICERS President Beatrice Riopelle Vice-president Elaine Kraft Secretary Alice Muller Treasurer Jane Beekman HEADS OF SPORTS Helen Eisner Gwen Jones Shirley Hilger Alice Krueger FACULTY ADVISER Jean W. Kilgour Nan Owen Vivian Weyland The Women's Athletic Association, better known as the W. A. A., is one of the most important women's organizations on the campus. Although its main purpose is to promote an interest in sports, it also develops good sportsmanship, cooperation, and leadership. The heads of sports did fine work in taking charge of class and intersorority games. These games often proved very exciting and stimulated much friendly rivalry, especially in volleyball, basketball, and baseball. The climax of the hockey season came when a selected team played — and, incidentally, was beaten by — Milwaukee Downer. Money for trophies for the main sports was raised by selling wieners at football games and ice cream at basketball games. The W. A. A. activities throughout the year were summed up in Julia Venable's ECHO column, "Fem Fans." 38
